| 👉🏼 What You Need to Know 👈🏼 | | It seems the Mexico, Canada, U.S. tariff affair is more off-and-on-again than our worst toxic relationships. ⏸️ After moving ahead with 25% tariffs on North American trading partners on Tuesday, President Trump paused tariffs – again – on imports coming from Mexico and Canada that are covered by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) until April 2. 📣 Trump told reporters the backwards slide had nothing to do with sending markets into a tailspin. 🪙 Separate tariffs on steel and aluminum will supposedly go into effect as planned on March 12, which could have an impact on retaliatory tariffs in places like the EU. 🍸 The pause is certainly a relief for tequila importers, some of whom were already slapped with major invoices this week when trying to cross liquid over the border. |
| | | Business accelerator Pronghorn has announced its first investment of the year. Women-owned Doce mezcal is the latest brand to join the Pronghorn portfolio which focuses on supporting Black-owned spirit companies including Ten to One Caribbean Rum, Anteel Tequila, and Greenwood Whiskey, among others. - The investment marks the first by Pronghorn in a mezcal brand, following another first by the group made last year when it invested in a non-alc RTD.
- New York-based Doce will also get a distribution boost coinciding with the investment via a new agreement with Blueprint that should up Doce’s availability in New York state.

| | | | BevNET editor-in-chief Jeff Klineman and Nosh managing editor Monica Watrous share insights from the second day of Natural Products Expo West. Some highlights: 🤝 The industry continues to embrace opportunities to support diverse and underrepresented entrepreneurs, despite the rollback of diversity, equity and inclusion policies elsewhere. 🌱 The Make America Healthy Again movement was in full force at the event, anchored by a booth offering merch. 🐔 The shift away from seed oils is sparking demand for alternative fats seen at the show, including packaged beef tallow and chicken schmaltz. Watch the full video for more observations and insights. |
