We need not remind you that the record inflationary pressure of 2022 is still being felt at checkout counters around the country. While laws of physics – “what goes up, must come down” – have never really applied to pricing dynamics, particularly in food, 2026 may be the year that changes.

A handful of large conglomerates (see: PepsiCo and General Mills, among others) have recently shared plans to cut prices across broad swaths of their portfolios. They say they hope to relieve some pressure on consumers and, after talking at length about price-pack architecture for the past year or so, it appears they think price cuts may be a more effective way to make that happen. 

But as we look into our crystal ball for the year ahead, these large, lumbering processed foodmongers aren’t going to be the only ones fiddling with the packaging and pricing matrix. Today, premium plant-based yogurt producer Coconut Cult debuted a new, smaller format and lower price point as it rolls out exclusively to Target stores nationwide.
