I’ve been thinking a lot about whether Big Food can truly compete within an innovation ecosystem currently led by entrepreneurial types these past few months. From a rapidly shifting regulatory landscape that seems to have a grip on consumer behavior to equally unpredictable trade policies and supply chain hiccups, it doesn’t look easy out there for anyone.

Over here at Nosh, we’ve been digging into the conversation from a few angles and recently took a look at how M&A and corporate venture efforts have fared as an innovation engine. By and large it seems the conversation on how conglomerates can keep up is rapidly shifting away from the way things once worked to… dare we say… a new normal? Or at least, a new way forward.

Politics and policy aside, the food industry is progressing at a rapid clip and General Mills came out with a “bold” plan during its Investor Day Tuesday it believes can keep it apace with those changes and return the company to consistent organic growth.

💡 Strategic Investment in CPG: Northhall’s Q3 2025 Report

💡 Strategic Investment in CPG: Northhall’s Q3 2025 Report

The FABID by Northhall Q3 2025 report highlights a measured but steady quarter for food, beverage, and CPG investment activity. Total disclosed funding reached $344 million, representing a 1% quarter-over-quarter increase, even as the number of funded brands declined.

As early-stage deal flow moderates and mid-sized rounds gain share, the quarter signals a market that is stabilizing at a more sustainable pace - one defined by disciplined capital allocation, selective growth, and investor confidence in category leaders.
