Afghan-inspired food company Maazah today announced it has raised a $2 million seed round with participation from existing investors as well as three family offices based in the brand’s hometown of Minneapolis.

“[It] means a lot to us right now as being in Minneapolis, [with] all the things that have been going on, it just feels like the community is behind us and supporting us. It's a wonderful way to keep going,” said Sheilla Sajady, co-founder and chief creative officer of Maazah.

Senate Democrats are calling for the government to refund roughly $175 billion in tariff revenues to small businesses after the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” levies in a 6-3 ruling on Friday.

• A bill introduced today would require U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to issue refunds over the course of 180 days and pay interest on the refunded amount. 

The Supreme Court ruling did not address how refunds would be handled, and the administration said it could take years and more litigation for American importers to claim any reimbursements. Meanwhile, Trump has already moved to reimpose tariffs under different trade laws.
