| | | After months of uncertainty around how the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) could affect the alcohol industry, the new guidelines have arrived with no recommended daily caps on drinking for the first time in decades. Amidst recommendations around limiting sugars and processed foods, the updated guidelines also urge Americans to “consume less alcohol for better overall health,” but drop the previous recommended daily limits of two drinks or fewer for men and one drink or fewer for women. At a press briefing, Dr. Mehmet Oz, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, praised alcohol as a social lubricant that brings people together, although cautioned that in the best case scenario people shouldn’t drink it.
